“We are so sorry!” israel Ambassador to Mexico Downplays Gaza Death Toll, Denies Genocide

“We are so sorry!” In that statement, Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz Neiger, downplayed the enormous number of civilian casualties caused by her country’s military occupation of Gaza.
In a virtual conference, the representative of Benjamin Netanyahu’s regime criticized other nations for recognizing the Palestinian state, saying doing so “is a reward for the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023.” She stated that the recognition of Palestine as a state by Israel and the United States is “premature” and welcomed Donald Trump’s peace agreement.
Asked about the position of millions of people on the fact that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians, and that this is not a war, the diplomat stated that “it is a war” in her country that she “did not ask for” and is merely defending herself.
“Israel is not committing genocide in Gaza. It does not intend for the civilian population to suffer, nor do we intend for civilian casualties. Israel does not want to harm the Palestinian people; on the contrary, we see this as a tragedy. We are deeply sorry! We did everything we could to minimize the number of casualties.”
However, Kranz Neiger failed to mention that two years into the occupation, official figures indicate more than 67,000 Palestinians have been killed, 169,430 injured, and more than 40,000 children reported dead or injured.

Regarding the allegations of abuse and harassment of the six Mexican delegates of the Global Sumud Flotilla while they were held in the maximum-security Ketziot prison, the head of the israeli diplomatic mission rejected these claims, much less any mistreatment of the Mexican ambassador in Tel Aviv, Mauricio Escanero. “There is no reason to think anyone was attacked.”
Regarding Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente’s statement yesterday in his appearance before the Senate, stating that Mexico would bring the case of the detention of the GSF, particularly the Israeli delegates, to the UN Human Rights Council, the israeli ambassador stated: “I don’t have an official response on this. If the issue is going to be raised, we will have to take a position.”
