State of Mexico Allocates Over 611 Million Pesos in Free Transportation Subsidies for Vulnerable Groups
From July 1, 2024 to May 24, 2026, the Government of the State of Mexico allocated a historic budget of over 611 million 320 thousand pesos to subsidize 61 million 398 thousand 544 free trips with free transfer on the Mexibús and Mexicable systems, benefiting senior citizens, people with disabilities and children under five years of age.
For Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, this initiative has been consolidated as an action of social justice and inclusion in favor of vulnerable groups, with the objective of raising the quality of life in the areas of highest population density in the state, where an efficient, modern, comfortable and safe transport service is demanded.
Official data reveals that of the total number of journeys recorded during that period, 30,805,233 corresponded to free trips and 30,593,311 to free transfers, which means that the beneficiaries did not make additional payments when using the interconnections between the different lines of the system.
This scheme of free fares and free transfers serves as a tool to support the family economy of vulnerable groups, in addition to promoting equal opportunities among the people of the State of Mexico in municipalities such as Ecatepec, Tecámac, Zumpango, Nezahualcóyotl, Chimalhuacán, Chicoloapan, Coacalco, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Tultitlán and Tlalnepantla.
In addition, the Government of the State of Mexico is promoting projects with a strong human focus, including Line V of the Mexibús, which will connect Lechería with the El Rosario Metro station in Mexico City, and will benefit more than 137,000 users from Naucalpan, Tlalnepantla, Cuautitlán Izcalli and Tultitlán, as well as the Azcapotzalco district.
