Sheinbaum to Attend World Cup Final; Trump Made the Invitation

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo will attend the FIFA World Cup final this Sunday at the invitation of United States President Donald Trump, she announced this Friday. In a brief interview at the conclusion of a handover of property deeds as part of the Viviendas Bienestar (Wellbeing Housing) program in Playa del Carmen, she noted that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will also attend.
“I received an invitation from President Trump to go to the World Cup final on Sunday. And I made the decision to go because, well, it is a direct invitation from the President of the United States. Prime Minister Carney will also be there,” said the president.
She anticipated that tomorrow she will record a video to offer more details about her trip, and noted that she expects to return to Mexico on Monday morning.
“We already reserved the tickets,” she noted, hinting that she will travel on a commercial flight, as she has done on international tours; nevertheless, she did not clarify whether next Monday’s “mañanera” will be held.
With the change in her schedule, the president canceled the activities she had planned for this Saturday and Sunday in Quintana Roo. Sheinbaum had anticipated that she would hold a press conference on the sargassum on the coasts of Quintana Roo. During the event she led today in Playa del Carmen, she clarified that in 15 days a plan will be presented to address this problem.
