Mexico City, August 20 (SinEmbargo).— The second model of Mexico’s bet on electric vehicles, the Olinia Cargo, was presented this Thursday by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and is designed to transport more than half a ton of cargo with the aim of strengthening national production and advancing toward cleaner mobility.

With an estimated price of 150,000 pesos toward the end of 2027, the new vehicle was displayed in the Central Courtyard of the National Palace nearly three months after the federal government launched the Olinia Uno, this past June 7.
The federal president explained that the model responds to the country’s needs and was designed with the engineering of public institutions of higher education. She also announced that the next step will be to define the scheme to take the project to a production stage through mixed investment.

“Today the new cargo model is presented, but we also present how we are going to proceed with the production of Olinia, which is the model that was chosen […] to develop the production of this vehicle through mixed investment,” she explained.
Roberto Capuano Tripp, the project’s coordinator, noted that the vehicle was born after field research to learn the needs of Mexican workers who need to move products, tools, or merchandise.
The unit offers a range greater than 120 kilometers and has a platform capable of carrying up to 12 crates, even stacked. Being electric, it also incorporates an additional space under the platform that the team called the “low trunk.”
“It carries up to 650 kilos, with a range of more than 120 kilometers, it is designed to fit a great many things. Twelve crates fit on the platform and they can be stacked on several levels,” Capuano noted.

With the work of 70 specialists, the project aims to become a mobility option for the commercial and labor sector, and to advance toward the creation of a company to produce and market it in Mexico.
To that end, Nacional Financiera and the Olinia team are preparing a public call to select strategic allies that contribute industrial and commercial capacity.

The public call, also open to foreign companies that meet the guidelines, will announce its terms at the end of September and could conclude with the closing of the round in December 2026.
The head of the Executive branch defended the commitment to electric mobility by noting that these vehicles can offer greater efficiency and reduce the generation of pollutants. She even highlighted the economic factor, given the rise in the prices of traditional and hybrid automobiles.

The president maintained that electric mobility “will always be cleaner” and reiterated that the goal is to offer more accessible vehicles for citizens.
