Cuban Ambassador: The Spirit of the Revolution Transcends Material Symbols

Mexico City. Following the illegal removal of the statues of Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara from Plaza San Carlos in the Tabacalera neighborhood, the Cuban ambassador to Mexico, Marcos Rodríguez Costa, expressed his position in a message posted Thursday on the social network X, where he emphasized that the spirit of the Revolution transcends material symbols.
“The true Revolution is not made of stone or bronze: it is a transformed consciousness, the collective will to fight and build a more just world,” wrote the diplomat, who did not explicitly mention the decision taken by the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office to remove the sculptures.
Rodríguez Costa accompanied his post with a quote from former Cuban President Fidel Castro: “…there is no force in the world capable of crushing the power of truth and ideas.”
The statues of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were placed in 2018 in Plaza San Carlos as a symbol of friendship between Mexico and Cuba.
