Mexico’s Federal Judiciary Reports 88% of Cases Resolved in One Year

The Federal Judiciary resolved 13,231 of the 15,051 case files received or inherited during the first 12 months of its new era, reported the president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Hugo Aguilar Ortiz.

The figure represents 88 percent of the total number of matters.

Aguilar presented the assessment during the ceremony “A Year of Real and True Justice: A New Way of Understanding and Delivering Justice.”

The Court Modernizes Its Processes

Among the actions undertaken by the Supreme Court are new case-management systems, the expansion of the electronic case file, and rules for drafting final rulings and votes.

Mechanisms for the random assignment of cases were also introduced to improve the efficiency, transparency, and traceability of proceedings.

The Supreme Court received 10,000 requests for assistance during its first year.

The Federal Judiciary also opened new intercultural legal-aid offices and launched itinerant programs and regional oversight offices.

Savings of 4.7 Billion Pesos Reported

Aguilar Ortiz reported that spending-rationalization policies made it possible to achieve savings of more than 4.7 billion pesos.

He also highlighted the expansion of the Public Defender’s Office, the use of digital signatures, and specialized training.

Judicial Discipline and Political Violence

The Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal opened six regional oversight offices and adopted a qualitative model to evaluate the performance of judges.

The Electoral Tribunal (TEPJF) also strengthened its Public Defender’s Office and specialized services to handle cases of gender-based political violence against women.
