From the beginning of President Claudia Sheinbaum ‘s administration in October 2024 to April 30, 2026, the daily average of intentional homicides was reduced by 40 percent , going from 86.9 to 52.5 homicides per day, reported the head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa Franco.
At the press conference led by the head of the Federal Executive, Marcela Figueroa, she pointed out that April 2026 registered the lowest level in the intentional homicide rate in the last 11 years. This means 1,020 fewer homicides during April, making this month the one with the lowest incidence of homicides in the last 11 years.
Likewise, the first four months of 2026 — from January to April — were also the lowest in the last 11 years , with a daily average of 51.2 intentional homicides in the country.
The head of the Secretariat pointed out that eight states accounted for 53 percent of intentional homicides in April; however, 26 states reduced their daily average compared to the previous year, notably San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, and Quintana Roo. Among the states with the highest incidence are the State of Mexico, among others.
The head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, mentioned the arrest of leaders and operatives of criminal cells in several states, as well as the seizure of weapons, drugs, vehicles, and exotic animals. He also highlighted the dismantling of fuel smuggling networks and extortion rings , in addition to the capture of high-priority national and international targets.
García Harfuch reported results of operations carried out in Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, Morelos, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Quintana Roo, Mexico City, State of Mexico and Tabasco.
