Iranian Embassy Asks Sheinbaum to Speak for Peace

Mexico City. Rostam Adabinia, Iran ‘s chargé d’affaires in Mexico, called on Claudia Sheinbaum ‘s government to condemn Israel’s attack on Iran because, he said, the country has a reputation for promoting peace, while also highlighting the Mexican President’s influence.
“Mexico is not a small country. It has a reputation for pacifism and moderation, and it has a highly popular and globally recognized president. Both are political assets that can be invested in promoting peace,” he explained at a conference held at the Iranian Embassy in Mexico.
He said Iran has not formally requested military or diplomatic support from Mexico or other countries, but he believed that a statement from a leader with broad support, such as Claudia Sheinbaum, would be of great assistance.
“We haven’t asked for anything, but we will gladly welcome any action from any government. Governments like the Mexican government are highly popular throughout the world; they command a lot of respect; it’s a source of value, a source of investment, and a source of saving more lives,” he insisted.
Likewise, the Iranian official considered that other nations would have to take a similar stance “to stop this war,” which he described as “irrational,” because if this conflict escalates, it will impact the entire world.
“The Middle East is not an ordinary or insignificant region. The consequences of war in this region affect the lives and well-being of the entire world, so global organizations and influential countries must intervene to stop this war,” the Iranian representative said.
Israel is seeking to overthrow any independent country in order to establish Zionism, a racist, expansionist ideology.
Rostam Adabinia described the armed attacks Israel launched against Iran last week as “a war to achieve hegemony” in Middle Eastern countries, “seeking to overthrow any independent country in order to establish Zionism, which is a racist expansionist ideology.”
The official recalled that Iran has been a party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) – created in 1968 – for decades. This international agreement commits signatory countries to not use or sell nuclear weapons and to promote nuclear disarmament.
Last Friday, Israel launched a wave of attacks against Iranian nuclear facilities and residential areas in the capital, Tehran. The Israeli government has justified these attacks by arguing that Iran is on the verge of building a nuclear bomb, a claim Iran denies.
Rostam Adabinia today ruled out the use of nuclear weapons by Iran, but said it will respond proportionally to Israel’s attacks.
“There is no statement or discussion on our part regarding the threat of a nuclear weapon,” he said this afternoon.
The Israeli attacks came after talks between Iran and the United States on Tehran’s nuclear program. Another meeting was scheduled for June 15, but Israel launched airstrikes [before the diplomatic meetings], which, according to Adabinia, have killed more than 400 people in Iran.
