Mexico City, August 16 (SinEmbargo).— Ariadna Montiel, national leader of Morena, accused the PRIAN of “handing itself over to foreign interests,” after the National Action Party (PAN) held a press conference in which it demanded that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) investigate Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), following the cancellation of his US visa.

Through social media, Montiel stated that the PRIAN “has decided to do what conservatism has historically done: seek abroad the strength it does not have in Mexico and hand itself over to foreign interests,” out of its desperation at not having the support of the Mexican people.

The Morena leader responded directly to a post made by the national president of the PAN, Jorge Romero Herrera, who reported on the conference the party held to demand answers over alleged accusations against AMLO’s son for supposed ties to organized crime.

“From the PAN, we will continue denouncing when power is used to protect those who should be held accountable,” the blue-and-white party leader wrote in his message.

In response, Ariadna Montiel pointed to the opposition’s cynicism in speaking of investigations, and mentioned the case of the PAN former governor Ernesto Ruffo, detained for fuel theft (huachicol), for whom Acción Nacional came to the defense and requested impunity despite the evidence against him.

Mexico’s Attorney General must investigate “Andy”: PAN

During the conference held today by the PAN, Romero Herrera demanded that the Mexican authorities clarify the reasons why the US government decided to revoke the visa of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, “Andy,” in addition to investigating an alleged link to “the fiscal huachicol scheme.”

“In the PAN, we demand, first, that they tell us why ‘Andy’s’ visa. You may say: ‘one more person’; that’s how they want to sell it, one visa fewer. No. We are talking about the son of the former president of Mexico, and we have serious doubts that it was revoked over some traffic violation or because he stayed one or two extra days,” said the party leader.

Likewise, he indicated that López Beltrán’s conduct originates in his father’s “permissiveness.” According to the PAN member, the former Morena Secretary of Organization “is everything he is and was because of the permissiveness of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. And let them not come tell us that the President knew nothing.”

Other key figures of Acción Nacional also took part in the conference, such as its spokesman Jorge Triana; the Secretary of Communication of the party’s National Executive Committee (CEN), Max Cortázar; and federal Deputy Federico Döring.
