Inflation Falls and the Popular Economy Strengthens
Annual inflation fell to 3.12% in July, its lowest level in recent times. President Claudia Sheinbaum noted that this is good news and attributed the result to the PACIC—the agreement to keep fuel prices stable—and measures against speculation. “Without these agreements, inflation would at least be double that,” she added.

Mexico and Peru Restore Diplomatic Relations
The President announced the restoration of diplomatic relations with Peru following the arrival in Mexico of Betssy Chávez, a former minister under President Pedro Castillo, who was granted asylum by the Mexican government. She reiterated her support for Castillo and explained that “regardless of the political orientations of governments, it is important for Mexico to maintain diplomatic relations with the world.”

Ayotzinapa: Investigations to Uncover the Truth Are Moving Forward
Sheinbaum reported that the arrest of former Guerrero Governor Ángel Aguirre is part of the Federal Attorney General’s (FGR) investigations into the forced disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students, and she has asked for a press conference to report on the progress of the investigations as soon as legally possible. The President reiterated that “the goal is to uncover the truth, find the (missing) young people, and ensure that justice is served.”

With the United States: Coordination, Yes; Subordination, No
Sheinbaum rejected former U.S. Ambassador Ken Salazar’s call to close the case of the transfer of drug kingpin “El Mayo” to the United States and reiterated that it must be clarified whether there was interference by U.S. government agencies on Mexican soil. The President emphasized that the relationship with the United States will continue to be based on respect for sovereignty, trust, and collaboration.

Energy Sovereignty with Environmental Responsibility
The President affirmed that reducing dependence on imported gas is a question of sovereignty and explained that alternatives are being analyzed to strengthen energy security through renewable energy, efficiency, and new technologies. She reiterated that any decision will be made on the basis of scientific evidence and with the least possible environmental impact.

Audience Rights: More Rights, Not Censorship
Sheinbaum reiterated that the guidelines on audience rights are still under consultation and do not include censorship or content review. “Censorship would mean that, if the government doesn’t like something, it orders it to be removed, but there is nothing like that in the guidelines,” she explained.

México Canta: A Culture of Peace for Youth
México Canta brought together 16,289 participants from Mexico and the United States. The President noted that the song competition is part of the Program for Peace and Against Addictions. “What’s important is that all of them serve as role models for other young people,” Sheinbaum explained. The grand final will be held on September 13, and the winning group will open the Independence Day celebration.
