USMCA: Mexico Confidently Moves Forward on the Trade Treaty Review
President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that a meeting will be held tomorrow between Mexico, the United States, and Canada to advance in the review of the USMCA. She noted that Mexico and Canada have already signed the extension of the treaty for an additional 16 years, and a response from Washington is being awaited. If no agreement is reached, the agreement itself establishes a review process, and the treaty would remain in effect for another ten years. Sheinbaum reiterated that the USMCA benefits all three countries and expressed confidence in reaching a favorable agreement.

Public Healthcare Strengthens Free Care and Modernizes Hospitals
The commitment to eliminate HIV as a public health problem by 2030, through screening and care, was reaffirmed. In addition, the healthcare system continues to be strengthened with 2,275 new beds for ISSSTE, as well as 174 new pieces of medical equipment for IMSS-Bienestar, and the first National Fetal Surgery Unit in the public sector. It was also noted that Mexico has the strictest regulatory framework in North America for the medical use of fentanyl.

Mexico Ranks Among the Countries With the Highest Levels of Trust in Their Government
Sheinbaum noted that, according to the OECD, 53% of the Mexican population trusts the government—above the 40% average and higher than in countries such as Sweden, France, and Finland. “There are some who won’t like this, but that’s just the way it is,” she noted.

Public Funds Must Be Used Legally and Transparently
The President noted that it is prohibited to use public funds for the personal promotion of public officials, so it is up to the National Electoral Institute (INE) to review the case of Nuevo León Governor Samuel García’s advertising expenditures. With regard to Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos, Sheinbaum pointed out that it is worth investigating whether there is a conflict of interest due to her involvement in a real estate company linked to contracts with her administration and, if necessary, for the competent authorities to take action.

Mexican Migrants Are National Heroes
Sheinbaum welcomed the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholding birthright citizenship for the children of migrants and reiterated that Mexican migrants are national heroes, highlighting their contribution to both the Mexican and U.S. economies.

Fertilizer Plant Will Strengthen Food Sovereignty
The President reported that construction of the ammonia and fertilizer plant in Sinaloa is nearly 95% complete and emphasized that the project includes an environmental impact study, mitigation measures, and the backing of a public consultation. She noted that this project will help strengthen food sovereignty by boosting domestic fertilizer production.
