Housing for Well-Being: A Right Made Real
In Zacatecas, 18 homes were delivered. The state’s goal is to build 27,500 homes, and 30 percent of the target has already been reached. This is how a policy that seeks to turn the right to housing into a tangible family asset is moving forward.
Humanistic Environmentalism: Well-Being with Environmental Justice
Mexico is moving forward with a policy that protects people and nature, involving a 35% reduction in emissions and the use of 38% renewable energy by 2030. The “Sembrando Vida” (Sowing Life) initiative involves sowing 75 million plants across 36,000 hectares with the help of 415,000 growers.
Water Is a Right, Not a Commodity
5 billion cubic meters of water were recovered, equivalent to the annual supply for 90 million people. With an investment of more than 80 billion pesos (US$4.45 billion), 17 strategic projects are moving forward; and with 20 billion pesos (US$1.11 billion) three rivers are being cleaned up, benefitting 25 million people.
One Homeland, One Flag
The Senate approved the constitutional reform requiring Presidential and gubernatorial candidates to hold only Mexican citizenship. President Claudia Sheinbaum explained that “the presidents of Mexico can only have one flag, one homeland.”
Freedom of Expression, with a Sense of History
Regarding former president Felipe Calderón’s participation in a Latin American right-wing forum, Sheinbaum recalled the García Luna case and the rise in homicides during his six-year term in office. She quipped, “He’s going to talk about democracy,” but emphasized that “there is nevertheless maximum freedom of expression” in the country.
