Sheinbaum Foresees 12 Million Families Benefited by the Housing Program by the End of Her Government

Mexico City. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo asserted that by the end of her six-year term, 12 million families will be benefited by the housing program, which will generate an annual economic spillover of 1.2 percent of GDP.

At this Monday’s press conference, she highlighted that this government’s goal is to build 1.8 million new homes, restructure 1.8 million loans for home improvement, restructure 5.1 million loans, issue one million property deeds, as well as provide 2.2 million traditional loans.

“It’s about 1.2 percent of GDP per year in economic spillover from the housing-for-well-being program; 12 million families are going to be benefited by the entire housing program over the six-year term.”

She emphasized that each home generates an average of four jobs. “Six hundred thousand homes have already been contracted (to date); that’s 2.4 million jobs associated with the homes that were contracted.”

The most important thing is having access to what we consider a right, which is decent housing.

For her part, the head of Sedatu, Edna Vega, stated that for now the states where the most social-interest housing has been built are Tabasco, Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Tamaulipas, and Veracruz.

The official stated that 667,000 homes have been contracted, representing 37 percent progress toward the total of 1.8 million. So far, the accumulated investment is 75.9 billion pesos.
