Sheinbaum Meets Privately with Maru Campos on Her Arrival in Ciudad Juárez

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, held a private meeting with PAN Governor María Eugenia Campos Galván at midday this Saturday at the Abraham González airport in Ciudad Juárez. The state governor and the president addressed various issues, among them the case of the participation of CIA agents in operations against drug trafficking, two of whom died in a car accident in the municipality of Morelos this past April.

As she left the airport to head to the “Honesty and Results” event at the Plaza de la Mexicanidad, Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that she had spoken with Maru Campos about the alleged illegal intervention of U.S. agents. “We spoke about coordination; what I told her is that in the event there was a violation of any law, action must be taken — she agreed — in case any official of her government acted wrongly, that it proceed.”

The agreement with the governor of Chihuahua was that, “through the Secretariat of Governance and the Secretariat of Security, depending on the issue, we will work jointly for the well-being of the state of Chihuahua.”

In the event there was a violation of any law, action must be taken. If any official of her government acted wrongly, let it proceed.

On Friday, from Irapuato, Guanajuato, President Claudia Sheinbaum said that, despite the significant differences she has had with the governor of Chihuahua, María Eugenia Campos, over the participation of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agents in an anti-drug operation in the state, she would meet with her today at the Ciudad Juárez airport, but that it would be with the Secretary of Governance, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, that the PAN governor would take up state-related matters.

“She sent me a letter requesting a series of meetings, taking advantage of my visit to Chihuahua. The truth is I am going to the (accountability) event and from there I am off to Baja California,” she said.

She emphasized that she asked the Secretary of Governance to speak with her. “They will have several meetings on the issues she is requesting through the Secretariat of Governance in Mexico City,” she affirmed.
