Sheinbaum Calls “Absurd” the PT’s Claim of U.S. Pressure in Morena

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo called “absurd” and baseless the claim by the national leader of the Labor Party, Alberto Anaya Gutiérrez, about alleged pressure from the United States in the designation of Morena’s state coordinators ahead of the 2027 elections.

During her morning press conference this October 8, the president rejected the interpretation of the leader of the Labor Party (PT) and maintained that the designations respond to Morena’s internal mechanism. “It is an absurdity, really, what he is saying has no basis whatsoever,” she stated.

Sheinbaum Pardo recalled that since its founding Morena established polls as the mechanism to choose its coordinators, although she acknowledged that the procedures of any political party can be improved.

Morena, from its formation, made the decision that the coordinators would be chosen by poll, and well, it is the result of the polls.

Likewise, she considered that the versions about a supposed intervention by the United States may arise from disagreements with the results of the internal process: “There are times when the person that one of the political parties or another person would have wanted does not come out in the poll, and they make these interpretations that have no basis whatsoever.”

The PT leader’s claims come ahead of the 2027 elections, when 17 governorships, the Chamber of Deputies and various local offices will be renewed. In that context, Morena designated state coordinators as part of its political organization and the preparation of its territorial structures.
