Sheinbaum Dismisses Alleged US Memorandum for Greater Collaboration in Mexican Territory

Mexico City. Referring to a report in The New York Times about a memorandum sent by the United States government to her government to have greater bilateral collaboration in national territory, President Claudia Sheinbaum dismissed the existence of this document. However, she said that pushing for more collaboration in Mexico has been a recurring request from the Donald Trump administration.

She stressed that this possibility has always been rejected because operations in Mexico correspond only to Mexican authorities. At her press conference, the president asserted that her vision is far from the one that prevailed during the Felipe Calderón administration, when operations by US personnel in Mexico were accepted.

In this administration, she said, we coordinate, but if they have information they provide it to us and Mexican forces carry out the actions in national territory.

She explained, for example, that mirror operations were recently carried out on the Tamaulipas border when there was an alert about alleged shots fired into US territory from Mexico. That is the type of coordination in which each government does its part in its own territory.

She said that the Donald Trump government has repeatedly insisted on this participation of US personnel in Mexico, but this possibility has always been rejected, since in Mexico only Mexican authorities operate.
