The socialist party, which has 49 representatives in the Chamber of Deputies, proposed a tax on Mexico’s rich, who pay exceedingly low tax rates, to fund poverty reduction, housing, public education and social programs.
The socialist party’s leader recalled the democratic spaces that the left managed to conquer with the 1977 & 1996 reforms, a “fruit of countless struggles, repressions, imprisonments, disappearances and even armed uprisings.”
The Workers Party, originating in Mexico’s Maoist movement and a long-time ally of AMLO since his 2006 Presidential campaign, was founded on December 8, 1990.
The PT will form a coalition with Morena & the Green Party, which would prevent Saúl Monreal, brother of the current Governor, from competing due to party regulations against nepotism,
Luna Aguilera, a member of the socialist PT and recent mayoral candidate in Veracruz, was picking up her child from school when she was attacked by armed individuals.
