Sheinbaum Criticizes La Derecha Diario Following Cerimedo’s Arrest
This article by José Shaddai Olvera Torres originally appeared in the August 19, 2026 edition of El Chamuco, a Mexican satirical political magazine.
(AUGUST 19, 2026).—The president questioned the use of bots, artificial intelligence, and fake news by La Derecha Diario operators to influence political processes.
During “The People’s Morning Conference,” Claudia Sheinbaum questioned the role of La Derecha Diario following the arrest in Bolivia of Fernando Cerimedo, one of the outlet’s founders and shareholders.
Cerimedo was arrested after the armed attack against his ex-partner, the lawyer Nadia Beller, who survived an attempted femicide.
The Mexican president used the case to explain what, she argued, constitutes a mechanism of political influence based on bots, artificial intelligence, and the spread of fake news to favor right-wing movements in various countries.
Sheinbaum Questions La Derecha Diario’s Digital Strategy
The president explained that La Derecha Diario uses digital tools to boost content and build a network of information and opinion favorable to certain right-wing political movements.
According to Sheinbaum, these tools include the use of bots and artificial intelligence systems, which would make it possible to widen the reach of certain content on social media.
The president linked this strategy to various political and electoral processes in Latin America.
Sheinbaum Shows a Post by Javier Negre
At another point in the conference, Sheinbaum showed a post by Javier Negre, co-founder of La Derecha Diario along with Cerimedo.
The president used the content to argue that the project’s own members have spoken publicly about their ability to influence electoral processes in various Latin American countries.
According to Sheinbaum’s explanation, this strategy would seek to generate a network of opinion by spreading content favorable to right-wing political movements.
The president also stated that these operators had been hired by Ricardo Salinas Pliego.
The Case of Fernando Cerimedo
Sheinbaum’s remarks come after Fernando Cerimedo was arrested in Bolivia.
The Argentine is a personal adviser to Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz and has also worked as a political consultant connected to Javier Milei.
Bolivian authorities consider him the main suspect in the attack against Nadia Beller, who was shot three times at the entrance of a hotel.
During the conference, Sheinbaum also presented a post by Javier Negre and described Cerimedo as a “femicide perpetrator.”
Cerimedo’s criminal liability for the attack, however, will have to be determined through the corresponding investigation and judicial process.
