The auto industry in Mexico continues a pace of steady growth, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported.

In the first 10 months of 2026, 1,287,268 units have been sold, 4.8 percent more than in the same period of 2025, which means the sector has reached a record for the January-October period.

Guillermo Rosales, president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), recently said that the good streak in sales during 2026 is underpinned by the competition from traditional brands (with higher sales volume), which intensified against the Chinese companies that keep gaining market share.

Sales of new vehicles in Mexico rose to 137,438 units in October 2026, an increase of 3.1 percent compared to the same month last year.

According to the preliminary figures for domestic retail sales from the Administrative Registry of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry (Raiavl), light vehicle sales gave the sector its best October since 2016, when 137,503 vehicles were sold, and eight consecutive months of positive annual results.

Thus, new vehicle sales are on track to break a record this year: with two months left before 2026 ends, they are at unprecedented levels.
