Mexico City, November 5 (SinEmbargo).– President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed that she will travel to China to participate in the leaders’ summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), an event at which she will also hold a bilateral meeting with her Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
During the morning press conference, when asked about this trip, the president reported that she will be in China from November 15 to 20, 2026 to participate in the summit, where she has some bilateral meetings planned, among them the meeting with the President of China.
“Yes, I leave Saturday, in the early morning of Sunday, November 15, and I return by November 20. That week it will be the turn of the Secretary of Governance (Rosa Icela Rodríguez) to be at the mañaneras. I hope to be able to connect with you. We are going practically the whole week because it is two days of flying and with the time change,” she detailed.
She was also asked whether she expected to meet with the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump. Sheinbaum responded that there is still no certainty that the U.S. leader will attend the summit, but affirmed that, if he goes, Mexico is interested in holding a meeting with him.
We still don’t have certainty that Trump is going to go. If he goes, we are interested in meeting with him and it will depend on how much time he is there, but there is still no confirmation that he is going to go to this meeting.

What Topics Will Be Addressed at the APEC Summit?
The 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting will begin on November 14 in Shenzhen, China, with meetings of senior officials and business representatives, and will conclude on November 19 with the meeting of leaders of the 21 economies that make up the organization, among them Mexico, the United States, Japan and Russia.
During her participation, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo will have the opportunity to dialogue with representatives of other nations on the region’s main economic, commercial and technological challenges. Under the slogan “Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together,” the 2026 edition will have three priorities: openness, innovation and cooperation.
According to the APEC Secretariat, the main issues to be addressed during the meeting are:
- Artificial intelligence: Promote its application in trade, energy and services, as well as analyze personal data protection, technological regulation and worker training.
- International trade: Facilitate commercial exchanges through the digitalization of documents, cost reduction and greater regional economic integration.
- Supply chains: Strengthen the capacity of economies to face trade disruptions and improve connectivity between markets.
- Energy and food security: Promote more resilient systems in the face of economic and environmental challenges, as well as expand cooperation in infrastructure and supply.
- Digital transformation: Promote innovation, financial inclusion and the development of technological capacities to take advantage of the opportunities of the digital economy.
- Economic integration: Continue talks on the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, competition policies, state-owned enterprises and trade-related labor issues.

“APEC brings together its 21 member economies to share experiences, evaluate different policy approaches and identify areas where greater progress is needed,” said Eduardo Pedrosa, Executive Director of the organization’s Secretariat, during a press conference held in Singapore.
On economic matters, Carlos Kuriyama, Director of the APEC Policy Support Unit, reported that regional growth of 3.4 percent is projected in 2026, compared to 3.2 percent the previous year. However, he warned that inflation could increase from 2.4 to 3.2 percent, while the digitalization of trade documents would make it possible to reduce transaction costs by up to 5.8 percent.
Founded in 1989, APEC is a regional forum that promotes economic growth, trade and cooperation among its members. Mexico has been part of the organization since 1993, which allows it to participate in the dialogue on trade policies, investment and economic integration in the Asia-Pacific.
