Puerto Vallarta House to House Healthworkers Strike

UPDATE: According to the Vallarta Independiente, some of the workers participating in the strike were fired.
PUERTO VALLARTA, Jal., July 2, 2025.- Approximately 35 workers from the Federal Health Secretariat, assigned to the “House to House Health” program in Puerto Vallarta, went on strike after not receiving their June wages. They also accuse Perla Medellín, the city’s new representative, of mistreatment.
Interviewed on the matter, one of the federal agency’s employees anonymously detailed the situation faced by workers in this program, promoted by the Government of the Republic to bring healthcare to the homes of those in need.
Part of the reason they went on strike on July 2 is that they haven’t been paid the two paychecks corresponding to the month of June, that is, about 8,000 pesos each.
Furthermore, although non-payment is common, not only in this city but in various parts of the country, the previous delegate—they claim—attended to them and explained the situation, but the new delegate, who only took over on July 1, refused to give them any explanation, saying “she’s not here to be friends” and that everyone must work.
“Hold on until the payment arrives, it’s not my problem,” the new representative told them, showing no regard for the workers, as many of them have sick parents and sometimes have to take time off, but they later make up for lost time. “It doesn’t matter here. I don’t come to be friends, I come to work. It doesn’t matter if your mom is sick, it doesn’t matter if you’re pregnant, it doesn’t matter anything other than getting the job done,” the worker says.
The strike would have lasted only that day, and they will resume work on Thursday the 3rd, but they will have to make up for the strike day by working on Sunday.
