Mexico City. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo expressed confidence that the train connecting Mexico City with Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will be inaugurated in December.
During Thursday’s morning press conference, she reported that there were delays in the construction of the extension of the suburban train from Lechería to the new airport terminal, located in Tecámac, State of Mexico, due to the opposition of some communities in the region.
“There were social problems that hadn’t been resolved. Fortunately, everything has been resolved. Construction is underway on all the kilometers from Lechería to the AIFA (Mexico City Transit Center)—since the subway already runs from Buenavista Station to Lechería—and, to avoid going through the AIFA, it will have a detour to go directly to Pachuca. It will be Mexico City-Pachuca,” she indicated. “Let’s wait and see if we can open this train in December.”
Sheinbaum also said that the AIFA “is growing very well, very well, and it’s very well managed and operated by General (Isidro) Pastor. Many offers are coming in to join the AIFA. And now with the (FIFA) World Cup next year, both airports will be in Mexico City: Benito Juárez and Felipe Ángeles.”
