Homicide Incidence in the State of Mexico Falls 56% from September 2024 to This Past June

Toluca, State of Mexico. Under the current federal administration, homicide incidence in the State of Mexico has fallen by 56 percent between September 2024 and this past June, reported the head of the executive secretariat of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa. This means the state went from a daily average of 6.6 murders to 2.8.

During the presidential press conference held in the state, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch said the single-command strategy in 15 municipalities in the eastern part of the state has been an important expression of collaboration among the three levels of government. This has allowed the arrest of 3,330 members of criminal gangs linked to high-impact crimes and the seizure of 819 firearms and 28,000 cartridges.

García Harfuch explained that one of the main joint operations was the operation called Enjambre, through which 60 public officials and former public officials who provided protection to organized crime organizations or were directly linked to them were arrested. These arrests have resulted in 16 convictions involving 22 former public officials.

The secretary asserted that the use of intelligence and investigation, as well as greater coordination, has made it possible to reduce crime rates. According to Figueroa’s report, high-impact crimes have fallen by 40 percent.

García Harfuch indicated that joint actions have been carried out to address the incidence of high-impact crimes, among them reducing extortion. In addition, properties used for the operation of criminal organizations have been seized. He noted that the actions were concentrated in the 15 municipalities with the highest crime incidence in the urban area of the State of Mexico: Naucalpan, Tlalnepantla, Chalco, Valle de Chalco, Ecatepec, Chimalhuacán, La Paz, Nezahualcóyotl, Chicoloapan, Coacalco, Cuautitlán, Ixtapaluca, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Tultitlán, and Texcoco.

For her part, President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that, in a nationwide assessment, June has been the month with the lowest incidence of intentional homicides in the country in 19 years. She emphasized that, in the case of the eastern part of the State of Mexico, the single command has made it possible to establish joint actions to reduce high-impact crimes, as in the case of violent vehicle theft, which fell from 79 in July 2025 to 39.1 this past June.
