Golden Parnassus Cancun Workers Strike

Cancún, Quintana Roo. Approximately 140 workers at the Golden Parnassus Cancún hotel began an indefinite work stoppage this afternoon due to noncompliance with various legal obligations and union agreements, reported Martín de la Cruz Gómez, General Secretary of the CROC in Quintana Roo.

The Croquista leader reported that around 1:00 p.m. this Monday, in the presence of labor authorities, the workers placed red and black flags.

He explained that the move is due to the company’s failure to comply with obligations such as the payment of savings funds, part of tips, withheld wages, food vouchers, and other legal obligations outlined in the petition, so they decided to take action.

He recalled that a month ago they held a meeting with company representatives, in which they averted a strike by promising to find a solution within a maximum of two weeks. However, four weeks passed without any progress or compliance with the agreements.

The CROC leader in Quintana Roo stated that the company decided to temporarily close the hotel, arguing that it was failing to honor its employees, many of whom have more than 20 years of service. “We are here on the instructions of our national leader, Isaías González Cuevas, to support the workers and prevent injustice,” he said.

He emphasized that the mobilization has legal validity, since the labor authorities were present at the start of the strike, taking cognizance of the facts in accordance with the law.

Martín de la Cruz called on the company to honor its agreements with its workers so that their operations are not affected, even though we are in the off-season and the hotel has temporarily closed to guests.
