FOR A CLASS-BASED AND COMBATANT MAY DAY!
FOR A WORKING CLASS GOVERNMENT!
The global capitalist system faces a profound crisis that is not only economic, but encompasses all aspects of the life of nations. Imperialist powers, by imposing the neoliberal model with the aim of solving problems of lack of economic growth, caused a massive increase in poverty among the people of the world, including the United States itself.
As a consequence, social contradictions deepened, increasing unemployment, lowering wages, causing housing shortages, deteriorating healthcare systems, a crisis in pension models, an increase in homelessness, drug addiction, crime, violence, and the proliferation of multiple forms of discrimination, racism, xenophobia, along with the loss of collective, community identity in favor of an individualism fostered by neoliberal ideology; problems that the societies of the world’s capitalist powers have not escaped. However, neoliberalism has only proved to be a palliative for the maintenance of imperialist nations. The lack of economic growth is evident in Europe, in the countries of Southeast Asia (once presented as a model for the world to follow), and in the Americas.
To justify the increasingly blatant plundering of the rest of the world and the squandering of resources, imperialism promotes racism, discrimination, and hatred toward the peoples of the Earth and the working class. The neo-fascist far right is gaining strength in Europe, and in the United States, it is seizing power through the Trump clique and its billionaires’ club.
In contrast, in Latin America, the majority of peoples have decided to advance along the path of national independence and economic development for the benefit of the broad masses. In 2018, Mexico resumed the path paved by the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1917 and is once again committed to advancing toward building a society with greater social justice, in which the interests of the people prevail over the ambitions of large national and foreign capital.
In 2024, the Mexican people reaffirmed their democratic decision; however, they face new challenges in the face of the Trump administration’s blatant desire to subjugate the country. President Claudia Sheinbaum has responded calmly and firmly to the US leader’s attempts at domination. This has been possible thanks to the support of the vast majority of the population who voted for the continuation and deepening of the progressive process known as the Fourth Transformation, strongly backing actions in defense of our sovereignty. In contrast, the Mexican oligarchy of elites has played a sad and shameful role, shamelessly supporting Yankee interference in the country, all in order to harm President Sheinbaum’s government, and thus the Mexican nation.

Fortunately, we have seen how the American people have also mobilized against imperialist capital in their country and in defense of their rights and legitimate interests. Today, the Mexican working class has a great ally in the proletariat of the United States. Aware of the dangers that US imperialism represents for the Mexican nation and our people, the Popular Socialist Party of Mexico calls on all workers to remain mobilized, to forge class unity, to fight for national interests, and to remain steadfast in the struggle to recover their historic demands and expand their rights, for example:
- Reducing the workday to 40 hours, with pay for 56 hours.
- Tax reform that taxes capital and not labor, so that those who have more pay more, and those who have nothing pay nothing.
- A decent wage for workers that meets the constitutional mandate of being sufficient to meet the normal needs of a family, materially, socially, culturally, and educationally.
- Universal access to social security for the entire working class of Mexico, whether in manufacturing, service, or agricultural work.
- Unify the content of Article 123 of the Constitution for workers employed by the State and private individuals, so that they enjoy the same labor rights.
- Combat all forms of job insecurity that prevent the working class from accessing their individual and collective rights.
- Restore the solidarity-based nature of the pension system, eliminating the Afores (Province-based Pension Funds), and unify the pension systems into a single system.
- Strengthen worker organization through class-conscious unions.
- Defend and enforce the rights of working women.
- Protect children from exploitation.
- Safeguard the rights of Mexican migrant workers against the attacks of the Donald Trump administration.
- Restore and update benefits for ISSSTE retirees and pensioners; restore the solidarity pension system of the IMSS and ISSSTE.
- Repeal the 2007 reform of the ISSSTE Law through a new law that improves workers’ working and living conditions, leading to the unification of labor legislation in Mexico.
- Restore the protective nature of labor and agrarian legislation to defend the rights of rural and urban workers.
- Increase guaranteed prices for basic grains, provide support to reduce electricity costs, and review irrigation well concessions for ejidatarios, community members, and smallholders.
- Immediate solution to the mining strikes in Cananea, Sonora; Taxco, Guerrero; and Sombrerete, Zacatecas, as well as the withdrawal of concessions from Grupo México.
In the fight for workers’ rights, not one step back.
Long live the class-based and combative May Day!
Long live the martyrs of Chicago, Cananea, and Río Blanco!
Long live the working class of the city and the countryside!
Long live worker-peasant unity!
