Mexico City. The General Health Council (CSG) has made the National Health Care Protocols (PRONAM) available to all healthcare institutions. These documents establish guidelines based on the best scientific evidence for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of priority diseases for the entire healthcare sector.
The central objective is to standardize medical care throughout the country. He added that they represent a collaborative and inter-institutional effort within the health sector to diagnose and ensure that treatments are applied uniformly, regardless of the level of care or system to which the patient belongs.
Currently, the Council Plenary has approved ten national protocols. At the primary care level, there are four protocols that address the most common chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and chronic kidney disease.
In prevention, there are two protocols that cover follow-up during the first thousand days of life and vaccinations throughout life. For early cancer detection, a protocol was developed for early identification in children and adolescents, as well as three protocols for childhood cancer, including retinoblastoma, lymphocytic leukemia, and Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Each protocol defines the procedures necessary for standardized patient management, with the goal of improving the continuity and quality of medical care in all health centers across the country.
They are designed to be practical, easy to understand, and accompanied by infographics that allow healthcare professionals to follow the diagnostic and treatment manuals.

PRONAMs act as unified care instruments, allowing any patient to receive standardized care regardless of the service they attend, facilitating timely diagnoses and consistent treatments.
The protocols were developed jointly, with the active collaboration of several key institutions, including the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), IMSS-Bienestar, Pemex, the Ministry of the Navy, the National Defense Ministry, and private services. The Pronam protocols can be found at pronamsalud.csg.gob.mx
