People’s Mañanera October 29
Every day, President Claudia Sheinbaum gives a morning presidential press conference and Mexico Solidarity Media posts English language summaries, translated by Mexico Solidarity’s Pedro Gellert Frank. Previous press conference summaries are available here.
Agreement with Producers from the Bajío Region
The Mexican government reached an agreement with corn producers from the Bajio region in central Mexico -Jalisco, Guanajuato, and Michoacán- to provide support in response to the drop in international prices.
Key points:
• Direct support of 950 pesos per ton (US$51.49) (no intermediaries).
• Improvements to the “Harvesting Sovereignty/Cosechando Soberanía” credit program and agricultural insurance.
• Flour companies will buy Mexican corn at above international prices.
“The support will be delivered directly to producers, not to organizations.”
Following the agreement, road blockades began to be lifted last night.
Mexico–U.S. Agricultural Coordination on Border and Pest Control
Mexico continues negotiations with the United States to reopen the border to the cattle trade, still closed due to the screwworm outbreak. The main facility for producing sterile flies is 30% complete, and the government will test mobile modular plants—a world first—to speed up eradication.
National Care System
Progress continues in implementing the National Care System. Working groups are in place that seek to design a sustainable, paid model that professionalizes care work. The SIDECU platform was launched to map and organize care services nationwide.
• 22 federal government divisions and institutions are coordinating efforts.
• 1,000 Child Care Centers (CECI) are planned; the first 200 will open in 2026.
Mexico Calls for Coordination with Washington over Attacks on “Drug Boats”
President Claudia Sheinbaum urged the United States to establish a new protocol to prevent unilateral attacks in international waters. Mexico will intervene in similar cases for humanitarian reasons and to prevent violations of national sovereignty.
“We don’t want violations of sovereignty… and there could be a Mexican involved.”

Flight Cancellations at AIFA
Mexico declared that the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) is operating properly and that the transfer of cargo flights to the new airport was based on safety and civil protection considerations. The President asked Washington’s to review its decision and made it clear that Mexico’s sovereignty is not up for negotiation.
Property/Asset Declarations of Anaya and Marko Cortés
Sheinbaum called on the Senate to review irregularities in the financial disclosures of PAN president Ricardo Anaya and PAN senator Marko Cortés, also recalling alleged bribes to the legislators linked to the energy reform.
She said they must face justice and that it’s important for the population to know what’s behind these cases.
“Ricardo Anaya leaves the country for six years—and when does he come back? When he has immunity.”
Sheinbaum on the PAN’s New Slogan
The President said that the PAN’s new slogan, “Homeland, Family, and Freedom,” has its origins in Mussolini’s fascism and warned that these concepts do not represent Mexican or democratic values. “This slogan has a fascist origin… as Juárez would say, they are morally defeated.”
She explained that in Mexico these words have another meaning: Family signifies diversity and community support. Freedom is an achievement of the social movements. Homeland represents the people’s sovereignty since Independence.
