President Sheinbaum Celebrates Day of the Dead with National Palace Offering

Mexico City. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo shared on social media the Day of the Dead offering that was set up at the National Palace, which this year, dedicated to Indigenous women, was dedicated to “our ancestors.”

In a short video, the president highlighted the “beautiful tradition of the Mexican people of celebrating our dead in a different way, as they come to visit us on this Day of the Dead. And we remember them, we give them food, and we pamper them.”

She stated that it is a very different tradition from that of other cultures. “It is a completely different vision of death that comes from the native peoples, from the Indigenous peoples.”

The President recalled that the marigold flower used for these offerings is native to Mexico.

On social media, she shared the following text:

“The offering at the National Palace is filled with flowers, colors, song, and fire. Each marigold petal marks the path back for those women who sowed life as they walked the earth.

“We honor those who tended the cornfields, those who healed with herbs, those who told stories under the moon, those who defended their land and dignity.

“They are still here, in the voice of the wind, in the pulse of the earth, in the echo of every word of their mother tongue.

“Our offering is for them: for their strength, their wisdom, and their infinite love. Ancestors of all Mexicans.”
