Pemex’s Financial Debt Stood at 77.5 Billion Pesos, 9.1% Less Than in 2025
This article by Darren García originally appeared in the July 31, 2026 edition of Contralínea, a Mexican investigative journalism magazine.
As of the second quarter of 2026, the financial debt of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) fell to 77.5 billion pesos, which represented a figure 9.1 percent lower compared to what it was at the end of 2025, the state company celebrated. Within the total debt, the share of short-term debt was reduced.
“The company registered increases in hydrocarbon production, industrial transformation, and revenue, accompanied by a reduction in financial debt and progress on its strategic agenda,” the oil company indicated in a statement.
Total hydrocarbon production at Pemex was 2,244,700 barrels of oil equivalent per day on average, a figure that represented an increase of 4.6 percent compared to the same period of 2025.
In addition, the average production of daily barrels of liquid hydrocarbons was 1,658,000. This figure was reached with the support of the strategic fields Ixachi, Bakté, Itta, Koban, and Maloob, located from Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, to Ciudad del Carmen, in the state of Campeche.
Internal transformation was also strengthened in the first two quarters of the year. With an average of 1,008,000 barrels per day, the crude processed in Mexican refineries grew 2.9 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
The production of petroleum products increased 3.4 percent, standing at 1.029 million barrels per day, with key increases in diesel (19.3 percent), gasolines (2.9 percent), and jet fuel (2.3 percent).
Sales, likewise, were positive. Those of petroleum products, at 1,471,000 barrels per day, increased 9.8 percent; those of gasolines, 11.4 percent; and 19.1 percent in the case of diesel. “These results strengthen the national fuel supply and contribute to the stability of the domestic market,” the statement noted.
With all of this, revenue from sales and services rose to 510.4 billion pesos, that is, 30.3 percent annual growth. That result also helped to reverse the operating loss of 11.1 billion pesos registered in the second quarter of 2025. For the first half of 2026, operating profit was 85.5 billion pesos, and net profit, 18 billion.
