Havana. The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, went to the Embassy of Mexico in Havana this Monday to sign the book of condolences for the passing of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, whom he recognized as a “tireless fighter for progress with social justice” and one of the island’s best friends.
Engineer Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, one of the main forerunners of the struggle for democracy in Mexico, died on October 28 at the age of 92 in Mexico City.
According to a statement from the Cuban presidency, the president expressed, on behalf of the island, his condolences and solidarity with the Cárdenas family and the Mexican government and people. He also highlighted the Mexican politician’s contribution to strengthening the ties between both countries and his defense of sovereignty and social causes.
For Cuba it has been a great honor to count among its best friends a man like Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, a tireless fighter for progress with social justice for the sister nation of Mexico.
