Lazzeri Delivers Copies of His Credentials in Washington as Mexico’s New Ambassador

Mexico’s new ambassador to the United States, Roberto Lazzeri, on Wednesday delivered a copy of his credentials to the chief of protocol at the U.S. State Department, Monica Crowley, in one of his first official acts after arriving in Washington the day before to take charge of the Mexican diplomatic mission.

Through his social media accounts, and after completing the protocol procedure, the diplomat noted that the State Department is “one of the centers of gravity of the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United States.”

Lazzeri emphasized that the ties between the two countries are characterized by a “historical density,” broad economic integration, and a deep human relationship, factors that, he affirmed, make permanent cooperation between the two nations necessary.

The ambassador stressed that, from the Mexican mission in Washington, efforts will be made to drive concrete advances that benefit both countries. Among the priorities, he mentioned strengthening the Treaty between Mexico, the United States, and Canada (T-MEC), protecting the Mexican community residing on U.S. territory, and promoting greater shared prosperity in North America.

“From the Embassy of Mexico in the United States, we will work to generate concrete advances and shared benefits: that the T-MEC continues to be the engine of North America, that our community is protected, and that shared prosperity is defended and expanded,” he said.

The delivery of copies of the credentials constitutes one of the preliminary steps for the formal recognition of an ambassador before the receiving government. With this, Lazzeri officially begins his activities at the head of the Mexican embassy in Washington.
