Mexico City. Mexico and Brazil reaffirmed their relationship yesterday by signing two cooperation agreements in energy and economic matters during the official visit of Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) , and with the participation of its head, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, the Declaration of Intent on biofuels was finalized between the Ministry of Energy (Sener), headed by Luz Elena González Escobar, and the Government of Brazil.
According to the statement , the agreement will allow for the examination of collaborative mechanisms for the production, regulation, certification, and use of biofuels, with the goal of promoting sustainable growth in this sector in Mexico.
The cooperation will draw on Brazil’s experience, a country with over five decades of experience developing bioethanol, biodiesel, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), and sustainable marine fuels.
At the same event, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Sener and the Brazilian Export Promotion and Investment Attraction Agency (ApexBrasil) with the aim of expanding business and investment opportunities between the two countries.
The document was signed by the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, Luis Rosendo Gutiérrez Romano, and the president of ApexBrasil, Jorge Viana, in the presence of the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón.

Raquel Serur Smeke, Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that the agreements represent a firm step in strengthening bilateral relations.
“They represent a tangible step forward in promoting the transfer of technology, equipment, and methodologies, as well as boosting the competitiveness of our companies,” he noted.
On the other hand, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo (CSP) affirmed this Thursday that this is “a complementary agreement,” since “Brazil produces and has technology in certain areas that interest Mexico, and we also have development in certain areas that interest Brazil.”
“Remember that the business leaders met. Not only the Vice President of Brazil and Foreign Affairs, Economy, and Energy, but there was also a meeting among business leaders to see if there could be some complementarity,” President Sheinbaum declared during her morning press conference.
Sheinbaum Pardo announced that at 12:00 noon she will receive the Brazilian delegation at the National Palace to “summarize the meetings held” and “the agreements that can be reached.”
“Indeed, as the Secretary of Economy [Marcelo Ebrard] rightly says, we are not thinking about a free trade agreement, but rather about cooperation and collaboration in certain areas,” she clarified.
