New Supreme Court to Hold First Public Meeting September 11

Mexico City. The Plenary Session of the new Supreme Court Justices of the Nation (SCJN) agreed that they will hold their first public session on Thursday, September 11th. The bills they will discuss are not yet known.
The judges held their second private session this Wednesday, lasting several hours, after taking up residence at the Supreme Court on September 1. The first private session took place early on September 2, during which they elected three members of the Judicial Administration Body (OAJ).
Although the issues the Plenary will discuss today have not been disclosed, sources at the high court indicated that a dozen agreements would be voted on that will define the rules of the Plenary’s operation: opening of public hearings, review and analysis of revenues, the Court’s original jurisdiction, guidelines on direct amparo appeals, powers of attraction and resumption, procedures for general declarations of unconstitutionality, criteria for admission and resolution of priority cases, session regulations, and the composition of lists.
