The head of the Secretariat of Wellbeing, Ariadna Montiel, reported that starting Wednesday, October 22, she will begin delivering support to families registered in the five states affected by floods.
Montiel explained that as part of the Comprehensive Support Plan for Victims, these initial grants will amount to 20,000 pesos, in addition to vouchers for household goods and basic food baskets, which will be allocated to the 75,000 homes surveyed last week.
“Starting Wednesday, we will begin distributing the first 20,000 pesos in assistance. This assistance will be delivered to all affected households that have been surveyed. This is a general assistance program; a voucher for household goods and a voucher for basic food baskets will be provided,” Secretary Montiel reported.
The first payment of this aid will be made from October 22 to 29 in the states of Veracruz, Puebla, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí. In the state of Hidalgo, the first distribution will be from October 25 to November 5 in censused households, as authorities will request the stub or ribbon they entered when conducting the census, as well as a copy of the recipient’s official identification.
The Secretary asked the public to keep an eye on their cell phones, as the invitation to collect the aid will be sent via text message and through loudspeakers in the communities.
The official also announced at the morning press conference on Monday, October 20, that a second round of funding will be allocated to housing reconstruction.
Those with medium damage will receive 25 thousand pesos, those with major damage will receive 40 thousand , and homes that were a total loss will receive 70 thousand pesos.
In the case of completely destroyed homes and those located in high-risk areas, the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development will support the relocation of homes, and the National Housing Commission will also assist with construction.
Commercial premises that were also affected will receive 50 thousand pesos, while farmers and ranchers will receive support of between 50 and 100 thousand pesos, depending on the number of hectares per plot.
The federal government plans to provide 190,000 school supplies for the five states and an additional 350 pesos for students.
They also announced that work is underway to rebuild 282 health clinics, which will receive 500,000 pesos each, in addition to Mexican state insurance.
Additionally, they will provide an additional 200,000 pesos in insurance for 750 affected schools through the La Escuela es Nuestra program.
Finally, the Secretary of Welfare indicated that 50,000 people will be employed for four months, from November to February, to help with road and community cleanup tasks in the affected areas, where they will receive a salary of eight thousand 500 pesos per month.
The Young People Building the Future program will also recruit 5,000 people to help clean up efforts in Poza Rica and Álamo, Veracruz , through registration modules already in place in those areas.
