Mexico City. General Ricardo Vallejo, commander of the Felipe Ángeles Engineers Group, reported that construction of the Mexico City to Pachuca Train has reached 37.6 percent progress on the works, and in the case of the Mexico City to Querétaro route the progress on the works is 20 percent.
During her press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum said there are important advances in the railway projects that are fundamental to this administration, “we are well ahead.” She said that both the Pachuca and Querétaro routes are expected to be inaugurated next year, and that the bidding process is underway for other routes, the Mexico City to Guadalajara and Mexico City to Querétaro segments.
Sheinbaum recalled that both under the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and under her own government the railway routes have been substantially promoted, in contrast to the privatization of trains that was carried out under the administration of Ernesto Zedillo.
For his part, General Vallejo said, during the presidential press conference, that the Ministry of National Defense is also continuing work in the southeast, particularly on the construction of the connecting line with the Tren Maya route, the trunk line toward Puerto Progreso, Yucatán, which will be a freight branch to support the distribution of goods in the southeastern region of the country.
Vallejo emphasized that in the case of the railway route to Pachuca, it involves the construction of 58 kilometers of confined electrified double track. Along this stretch, road works such as viaducts, vehicular underpasses, and six pedestrian crossings, among others, will be carried out.
In the case of Querétaro, the work involves 232 kilometers of double track, which means the construction of nearly 500 kilometers of track. In this case, he specified, the route involves the construction of 33 kilometers of elevated railway.
For her part, the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, Edna Vega, commented that even though work is underway on all four railway projects to clear the right of way, although most of these routes run along the historic right of way, work must be done to negotiate over stretches where social property and private property had to be cleared.
