China: US Not Interested in Mexico’s Development, But Rather Imposing its Geopolitical Agenda

The Chinese Embassy in Mexico asserted this Tuesday that the United States is not interested in Mexico’s development, but rather in imposing its geopolitical agenda in strategic sectors such as semiconductors. The statement was issued in response to statements by Mark Johnson, chargé d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, who stated during the U.S.-Mexico Semiconductor Forum that Washington “will not tolerate dependence on critical technologies from China” and that Mexico must play a key role in that strategy.

In a statement titled Solemn Declaration, the Chinese Embassy expressed its “strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition” to what it described as blatant rhetoric seeking to impose geopolitical competition on third countries. “What they call ‘not tolerating dependence’ is nothing more than raising trade barriers, issuing threats, and practicing economic bullying,” the Embassy stated.

Having failed at domesticating semiconductor production, US imperialism sees in Mexico a low-wage and disciplinable work force to exploit.

According to the Chinese embassy, ​​the US position is not motivated by a genuine interest in strengthening Mexican industry, but rather by an intention to use the country as a tool in reconfiguring supply chains. “In reality, the US side fears fair competition and refuses mutually beneficial cooperation,” the statement emphasized.

The Embassy added that Washington systematically resorts to intimidation tactics whenever it detects advances by other countries in strategic sectors, seeking to preserve its monopoly position in the global economy. These practices, it warned, affect not only the international economic and trade order, but also the interests of the Global South, including Mexico, and ultimately erode U.S. credibility.

In contrast, the Chinese government reiterated its commitment to building a more equal multipolar world and promoting inclusive economic globalization that benefits all countries. It also reaffirmed its opposition to trade barriers and economic coercion.

“The United States’ attempts at obstruction are nothing more than a futile effort, like that of an insect trying to stop a wagon,” the diplomatic mission stated, urging U.S. officials to abandon the “zero-sum mentality,” respect the global trade order, and allow normal cooperation between countries without intolerance or authoritarian overtones.
