Morena & Workers Party Deputies Oppose Fracking in Mexico

Members of the Morena and Workers Party (PT) caucuses in the Chamber of Deputies publicly announced that they are against fracking in Mexico.
In a press conference, they announced that they will present a constitutional reform project, through which they seek to completely prohibit fracking in Mexico. This is despite President Sheinbaum having stated that she will analyze , through a team of experts, the feasibility of implementing fracking in our country.
Lawmakers from Morena and PT announced that they will promote a reform project, through which they seek to modify article 27 and thus prohibit fracking in Mexico with constitutional status.
Deputies Adrián González Naveda and Olga Juliana Elizondo , from the PT, and Xóchitl Zagal and Manuel Vázquez , from Morena, reiterated that the prohibition of fracking is a commitment to the people of Mexico since the so-called Plan C.
In a press conference, they stated that their intention is to reintroduce this reform into the debate, as they claimed it was the only one presented by former President AMLO in Plan C that was not approved.
González Naveda pointed out that presenting this reform is the product of a social struggle in the territory, since many towns have expressed their opposition to implementing fracking.
He announced that a nationwide public consultation is planned to gauge public opinion on this controversial method of obtaining gas.
Finally, he stated that the people of Mexico will be against implementing fracking, since he pointed out that there is a risk of water, land, and social problems in several municipalities of the country.
For this reason, Indigenous communities have also spoken out against it, stating that they will not give in to the pressures that this controversial form of gas extraction could cause.
